Best Of 2017
We made it! What a year 2017 has been!
As I look back through the last 12 months, I can honestly say it’s been the most rewarding, exhilarating, tiring but satisfying year of photography for me. I’ve had *the* loveliest couples! And I’m not just saying that, each and every one of you have been absolute legends, and I’ve treasured your individual days and how unique they’ve been.
In 2017 I’ve shot at certain wedding venues in Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk I’ve never been to before; it’s been the first year of road-testing my terribly expensive cross-body camera strap (admired and commented on by all who behold it, particularly when they call it a ‘utility belt’ like I’m Batwoman or something), and I’ve also enjoyed seeing previous couples again, this time as wedding guests.
For nearly all my weddings this year I was joined by Emma, (If you didn’t see exactly how much of a good time we had at my weddings this year, check out my Behind The Scenes post) Here you’ll see how often we practice setting up and taking test shots, particularly for cake cuts, making sure we have unique facial expressions for each one.
As I look through the photos from 2017, it occurred to me I seem to only have a choice of one or two outfits to photograph in, which is totes awkward. Please let me assure you that isn’t the case, but for some unknown reason me and my variety of pink trousers feature prominently here.
I’ve got plenty of memorable moments from the past year; I kicked off the year with the wedding of my old school friend Charlotte at the Reid Rooms, and then I immediately returned to the Reid Rooms for my second wedding of 2017. I’ve witnessed brides, grooms and guests shedding more tears of joy than ever before; brides giving speeches; inflatable dinosaurs; a fire-eater; wet and windy summer weddings; incredible sunsets; a woodland ceremony followed by the reception in a tipi; requesting Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” at every single reception with a DJ, and every time they played it; and of course many, many glorious couples. My couples this year didn’t make my job feel like work, but like I was an extra special guest that got to see everything on their wedding day. I’ve been so lucky.
My favourite moments? If I had to choose:
Wedding dogs – so many wedding dogs. Please can we make dogs at weddings mandatory? And Tom giving me my birthday shout-out in his groom’s speech back in May, as their day coincided with my day of birth. Grooms have so many people to remember to thank and mention in his speech, and I was really touched by him signing his speech off with that. I loved it in fact.
So I hope you enjoy this collection of shots from the past year. It’s been amazing, and I can’t wait to carry on the journey into 2018!
Scroll below to see just a small selection of shots from the past 11.5 months, I wish I could include more but I’d be here forever, and for a more enjoyable experience, turn your sound ON and wrap your eyes around this slideshow!
