Lauren + Daryl | Layer Marney Wedding
It’s fair to say I’ve been looking forward to Lauren and Daryl’s Layer Marney Tower wedding since the second they asked me to photograph it! These guys got engaged at the same time as Lauren’s 30th birthday, and married before her 31st, so it really has been a crazy 12 months for this pair! Layer Marney is a wedding venue near Tiptree, Essex (yes, them with the jam) and the building and gardens originate from Tudor times, so if you’re looking for grandeur, this palatial gaff will be right up your street.
Lauren and her gang of girls got ready at her house in the morning, and I joined them there to get some snaps through the fog of hairspray. Lauren and Daryl originally met as students at university, at UEA in Norwich, and their wedding party comprised a cluster of former UEA students. Daryl’s shout out to the university’s student services in his speech after dinner was unconventional, but totally appropriate for a room full of old friends.
If there was a prize for the smiliest bride ever, I’m fairly certain Lauren would win it. In fact I didn’t detect any nerves whatsoever during the day, not even once she’d got into her dress at home (though it gave me a bit of a wobbly lip, I don’t mind admitting). It was clear they’d both put a lot of effort into making the day as memorable for their friends and family as for themselves, as they rounded off the (at times) eye-wateringly sunny September day with fireworks to finish.
