Kim + Phil | Channels Wedding
Back in the good old days of summer 2017, Mother Nature decided to flex her muscles and give us both ends of her weather spectrum for Kim and Phil’s wedding. Kim and Phil were some of my earliest clients who’d booked me not long after I’d branched out on my own, so I was eager to get photographing their wedding day, which was a church ceremony in Braintree, followed by a reception at Channels in Chelmsford. Only six months prior I’d moved house from Braintree to Chelmsford, so it was a nice, familiar tour of my old hangouts.
I met up with Kim, her two bridesmaids and her parents as she got ready at her parents’ house, once she’d arrived back from the hairdressers. It was very relaxed morning, and Kim was ready in good time before she needed to hop into her wedding car over to Braintree. Kim had mentioned she had a great bond with her Dad, and that was clear to see, as he made sure her dress was adjusted properly and looked top notch before they left the house. Meanwhile, Phil was with his best man and parents over in Braintree, before heading over to Our Lady, Queen of Peace in Braintree town centre.
The sun shone on Kim and Phil right the way through the ceremony and the journey over to Channels, which is a barn wedding venue in Essex, situated on a golf course, which makes everything look really lush and green! We’d just about managed the group photographs before the heavens opened, and despite being slap-bang in the middle of summer, it poured down with rain, and everyone dashed for cover. Not to be deterred, we did manage some photographs as it subsided, but made a note to try and nip back outside for a few more later that evening.
The speeches after dinner were excellent, particularly Phil’s best man, who described them growing up in the same family, and their (often fruitless) attempt to meet girls, giving up quickly and preferring to spend time playing their Playstation games instead.
Once the festivities were over, the sun was shining once more, providing every photographer’s dream end to an evening, the beautiful light just before sunset we like to call ‘golden hour’. Kim and Phil, feeling relaxed now the speeches were out of the way, humoured me as we popped outside for a few photographs in the golden sun, before they headed back inside to kick off the party.
